Devil's Ivy

Epipremnum aureum

Devil's Ivy (also known as Golden Pothos) is arguably the most adaptable indoor plant in the world. Boasting heart-shaped leaves with yellow-gold variegation, it trails beautifully from shelves, hangs in baskets, or climbs totems. It is legendary for surviving neglect and low-light conditions, making it the ultimate starter plant.

Native Origin & Climate

Tropical French Polynesia. Adapts effortlessly to indoor environments across all Australian states.

Expert Pruning Tip

Prune the trailing vines regularly to keep the plant bushy. Cuttings can be placed in water to quickly grow new plants.

Localized Australian Care Taxonomy

Care Profile

Beginner Friendly. Extremely forgiving. Survives low light, missed waterings, and general neglect. Perfect for absolute beginners.

Sunlight Diet

Highly adaptable. Prefers medium-to-bright indirect light, which maintains its beautiful golden variegation. Can survive in low-light office corners, but variegation may revert to solid green.

Thirst Level

Low. Allow the top 75% of the potting mix to dry out completely before watering again. If the leaves start to wilt slightly, it is time to water.

Rooting Terrain

Standard premium indoor potting mix. Tolerates wide soil conditions as long as it does not sit in stagnant water.

Atmosphere

Prefers standard indoor temperatures and average humidity. Resilient to dry air from winter heating and summer cooling systems.

Multiplication

Stem node cuttings. Snip a piece of vine with at least one node and place in water. Roots will appear within two weeks.

Form & Vibe

Cascading and trailing. Soft heart-shaped leaves on long, flexible vines. Provides a lush jungle feel to shelves and hanging pots.

Perfect Placement

Draped over a high bookshelf, suspended in a hanging planter, or climbing up a moss pole in bathrooms, bedrooms, or dimly lit rooms.
